Is four hours enough time?

2024-10-18T11:09:54+00:00

For over a decade, we have been providing leak detection at a fixed cost, that has not increased.

We have tried a purely hourly cost, but this was problematic as clients were (understandably) keen to see the leak detection finished, or mistook the first hour’s price as the whole day.

We have settled on a fixed amount that covers most average leak detections, whether heating or water supplies. This average is about 4 hours, so we have a fixed cost for leak detection to cover this, rather than a higher price for all.

Where a system is in […]

My water company said to call you as your inspection is free. Is this correct?

2024-05-29T11:42:26+00:00
Unfortunately, some companies (mainly Thames Water) are not sending their engineers to look at water leaks but telling customers we offer a “free” visit, regardless of whether a leak is found.
We are not connected to Thames Water, and in our opinion, this is, at best, lazy and, at worst, fraudulent, to avoid taking responsibility for leaks they should address.
All bookings are as per our Terms and Conditions.

What if I have several issues to locate?

2024-02-20T11:55:53+00:00

While we will try to locate everything in 1 visit, you do need to decide which is the priority. Heating leaks in particular, take a long time; therefore should be the priority. However while the system is draining, we can often look for other leaks on separate systems. The bottom line is, we will try to find it all, but you need to prioritise what is the primary reason for our visit to concentrate, if we run out of time.

My insurer says no visible water damage

Hidden Water Damage: Uncovering Insurance Fraudulence

Insurance is a promise of compensation for specific potential future losses in exchange for periodic payments. When this promise isn’t upheld because of unscrupulous practices, it’s called insurance fraud. One such practice in the building insurance sector is the insistence on visible water damage for a claim to be processed, despite the fact that water damage isn’t always perceptible to the naked eye. You do need to check your policy, but in our opinion, refusing claims with no ‘visible’ damage is a form of fraud by the insurer, since there is damage, just not seen yet.

Water […]

What if I need to cancel of move appointment?

2023-03-28T10:12:20+00:00

We understand that everything does not always go to plan and that at times you may need to cancel or move an appointment.

We are fair and adopt a system common across other sectors such as dentists, clinics and lessons/tutors in dealing with cancelling an appointment.

Unfortunately, we have had appointments where people have decided it is not convenient; this is not fair to ourselves or other customers who have had to wait for their appointment. Therefore, bookings cancelled or moved within 1 working day/24-hours will need to be subject to the full charge. For example, a Wednesday booking would need to be […]

Is there anything else to keep in mind?

2023-03-28T10:11:41+00:00

With insurance, the initial call to them can be fine, but at this point, they have not had to pay anything; you are calling a basic call centre with little authority to make financial decisions.

Be careful of what you are being asked and make sure you have your documents to hand to check you have cover, rather than trust the call centre is being 100% accurate. They will be running several differently worded policies, and mistakes are often made at this point.

Plan for the worst and be pleasantly surprised rather than hope for the best and be disappointed.

Can you help with making an insurance claim?

2023-03-28T10:11:02+00:00

Absolutely…

A great deal of care is needed to get a claim presented properly; sadly we find insurers are all too keen to stop a legitimate claim for whatever point they think they can apply, even when the cover is clearly in place and documented.

We work with several independent claims handling companies, who ensure the insurer does not give you a raw deal. They do not charge you but use the profit margin on the works to pay for the management of the claim.

Like all trades there are good and bad, we have found a number that consistently provides excellent service to […]

Can you Find Boiler Faults?

2023-03-28T10:10:30+00:00

Yes, in fact, boiler faults are responsible for about 20% of heating issues. Our detection methods allow us to test parts on-site that even the manufacturer’s service technicians cannot test properly without taking them away!

Obviously, we are looking for boiler faults causing leaks, and we are not able to diagnose electrical faults etc.

What can stop you finding my leak?

2023-03-28T10:10:01+00:00

Access to an area is a common problem, particularly in flats or shared mains; this causes 90% of the issues that can affect the inspection.

Blockages of heating systems from rust can cause issues that will require more works such as a power flush to get the system clean enough for leak detection to be carried out.

Ultimately given the access, we will get to the bottom of any leak…
